Nine Temples, Two Days: What Helps

  1. Work around the noon closingMost of the nine open about 6 AM to 12:30 PM and 4 to 8:30 PM; Thirunallar stays open till 9 PM. A temple missed at 12:30 means a 3½-hour wait.
  2. Check Rahu kalam for ThirunageswaramMilk abhishekam to Rahu is done in Rahu kalam, which changes with the day of the week. Tell us if you want it and we shift the plan.
  3. Carry sesame oil for ThirunallarMany devotees bathe in the Nala Theertham, light a sesame-oil lamp and leave the old clothes behind. Pack a change of clothes.
  4. Pick your day for Guru and SaniThursdays crowd Alangudi and Saturdays crowd Thirunallar. A Monday to Wednesday trip is the calmest.
  5. Bring offerings in small changeArchanai tickets, lamps and the homam counters are cash-friendly; UPI works at most, but not all.
  6. Leave room for parihara pujasIf an astrologer has advised a specific pooja or homam, tell us the temple and day in the fare form so we leave the time.

Temple hours change on festival days and in Sani Peyarchi weeks. Our travel desk checks the timings for your dates before you leave.

What to carry

  • Traditional dress for all nine temples
  • A change of clothes for the Nala Theertham bath
  • Sesame oil and a small lamp for Thirunallar, if you wish
  • Cash for archanai and homam tickets
  • Any pooja items your astrologer asked for
  • Water and light snacks for the gaps between temples

How we run it

Why the Navagraha Circuit Is Easier with KMS

  • Built Around the Noon Closing

Seven temples fall in the two mornings and two in the evening, so the van is never parked outside a locked door.

  • Drivers Who Know the Delta

The nine are scattered over village roads between Kumbakonam, Sirkazhi and Karaikal. Our drivers know the short cuts.

  • Room for Family and Pooja Things

Lamps, coconuts, flowers and the elders' bags all fit, from a 7-seater Innova to a 55-seat bus.

  • Rested for the Drive Home

The drive back starts mid-afternoon on day two, not after a full day of darshan and a late dinner.

Booking for a temple trust or an extended family?

Navagraha trips are often planned for 20 to 50 people after a family function or for a temple trust. A mini bus or a 45-seater keeps everyone together; we stagger pickups across Chennai and bill it as one trip.

Navagraha Temples Tour: Common Questions

How much is a Navagraha temples tour from Chennai?

₹20,450 for a 12-seater AC tempo traveller for 2 days, about ₹1,700 each for 12 people, with the driver's allowance and about 770 km included. A 7-seater Innova costs ₹15,830. Tolls and parking are extra.

Can we cover all nine Navagraha temples in two days from Chennai?

Yes. Day one covers Vaitheeswaran Koil, Thiruvenkadu, Keezhaperumpallam, Thirunallar and Thirunageswaram; day two covers Suriyanar Koil, Kanjanur, Alangudi and Thingalur, then the drive home.

See the 2-day route

Can the Navagraha temples be done in one day?

From Kumbakonam, a very full day can cover all nine. From Chennai it isn't practical, because the drive alone is about 6 hours each way and the temples close for 3½ hours at midday.

In which order should we visit the Navagraha temples?

Tradition starts with the Sun at Suriyanar Koil. By road from Chennai the faster order starts at Vaitheeswaran Koil. We'll follow whichever your family or astrologer prefers.

What are the Navagraha temple timings?

Most open about 6 AM to 12:30 PM and 4 to 8:30 PM. Thirunallar is open 6 AM to 12:30 PM and 4 to 9 PM. Hours change on festival days.

Temple tips

Which planet does each temple belong to?

Suriyanar Koil – Sun, Thingalur – Moon, Vaitheeswaran Koil – Mars, Thiruvenkadu – Mercury, Alangudi – Jupiter, Kanjanur – Venus, Thirunallar – Saturn, Thirunageswaram – Rahu and Keezhaperumpallam – Ketu.

When was the last Sani Peyarchi at Thirunallar?

On 6 March 2026, when Saturn moved from Kumbam to Meenam. The temple stays crowded for the 48 days after each transit, and on Saturdays all year.

What is the Rahu kalam abhishekam at Thirunageswaram?

Milk is poured over Rahu during Rahu kalam, and devotees believe it turns blue as it flows. Rahu kalam falls at a different time each day of the week, so tell us if you want it.

Can we add Darasuram, Swamimalai or Kumbakonam's temples?

Yes. Darasuram fits into day two. For Adi Kumbeswarar, Sarangapani and Swamimalai at leisure, make it 3 days.

Do you book rooms in Kumbakonam?

We suggest clean stays near the Mahamaham tank to fit your budget, and you book and pay directly. Choose "hotel help" in the fare form.
